CE-File, title of proceedings and neutral citation of judgments

The Courts and Tribunals Judiciary has issued a Practice Note on the implementation of the new Business and Property Division. The note provides guidance on changes to CE-File, the form of titles to be used in proceedings, and the neutral citation of judgments. From 5 October 2026, the ‘Court’ and ‘Case Category’ fields on CE-File will be updated to reflect the Division’s nomenclature, with fields for existing cases being amended automatically as at 18:00 on 2 October 2026. Case numbers will remain unchanged.

The Practice Note also sets out the format for the title of proceedings in the Business and Property Division and explains the neutral citation references that will apply to judgments handed down in the Division and certain specialist courts.
